How it All Began

The idea to provide accurate high-volume diagnostic testing was born right at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. As the virus was spreading rapidly, and diagnostic testing was largely unavailable, it took only 15 months for LAMPseq Diagnostics to develop a highly sensitive mass testing method. While the procedure initially focused on COVID-19 testing, it has since become a diagnostic platform that enables infectiological and differential diagnostic testing for many viruses and germs, using groundbreaking new technology.

LAMPseq Diagnostics has turned an innovative idea into a growing enterprise. Today, the experts at the Bonn-based company comprise an ever increasing list of scientists, founders and entrepreneurs.

Claudia Krcmar

Diploma in Business Administration, CEO

Claudia Krcmar began her professional journey in 1986 as an assistant to the CFO at Sixt AG in Munich. She subsequently played a key role in the development of the newly established Sixt Leasing GmbH. Afterward, she transitioned to the Controlling department for the international franchise business at Cadbury Schweppes GmbH, also based in Munich.
From 2000 to 2019, Ms. Krcmar held a management position in Controlling at Grenke AG, where she played a significant role in shaping control-related parameters within the rapidly growing company. Between 2019 and 2021, she served as a member of the Supervisory Board of Grenke AG.
Since 2018, Ms. Krcmar has held the role of Co-Managing Director at AMPIT GmbH.

Prof. Dr. Kerstin Ludwig

Professor of Human Genetics,
Co-Founder & CMO

Prof. Dr. Kerstin Ludwig is a human geneticist and heads a scientific research group at the University Hospital Bonn. Since her doctorate, she used the latest technologies to research the development of cleft lip and palate, one of the most common congenital malformations in humans. After studying molecular biotechnology in Dresden and Strasbourg (France) as well as a research stay in Toronto (Canada), Dr. Ludwig earned her doctorate at the University of Bonn. Due to her outstanding achievements, Dr. Ludwig was accepted into the prestigious Emmy Noether Program of the German Research Foundation (DFG) in 2016 and into the “Junge Kolleg” of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in 2017. Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, she has also led the Bonn Study of COVID Genetics (BoSCO) and is a lead member of the German COVID-19 Multiomic Initiative (DeCOI).

Prof. Dr. Jonathan Schmid-Burgk

Professor of Immunology,
Co-Founder & CDO

Prof. Dr. Jonathan Schmid-Burgk heads the research group for 'Functional Immunogenomics' at the Institute of Clinical Chemistry and Clinical Pharmacology of the University Hospital of Bonn. He studied Molecular Biomedicine at the University of Bonn and subsequently received his PhD on the topic of 'High-throughput genome editing in cells of the innate immune system'. This was followed by a research stay at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, which was supported by a grant from the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO). In spring 2021, Prof. Schmid-Burgk was offered a professorship at the University Hospital of Bonn.

The LAMPseq method has already been utilized successfully in a variety of scenarios during the COVID-19 pandemic. The following are some pilot reference projects where, under the leadership of the University Hospital Bonn / Institute of Hygiene and Public Health, LAMPseq analyzed more than 20,000 samples providing a high level of safety as a preventive screening tool.

Test Center at Bonn University Hospital

In 2021, over the course of a few months, LAMPseq set up a testing station at Bonn University Hospital and was able to regularly and reliably screen the infection situation among more than 8,000 employees. All employees praised the uncomplicated registration and fast processes in the test center.

Orchestra Testing

The West-Eastern Divan Orchestra under the direction of Daniel Barenboim gathered in Cologne in August 2021 to rehearse for the upcoming tour. The close cooperation with the University Hospital Bonn and regular testing with LAMPseq ensured smooth rehearsals and enabled the subsequent start of the tour.

Bonn Secondary school

About 1,400 students attend the Bertolt-Brecht-Gesamtschule. Throughout the LAMPseq testing, several test lanes were set up in the school’s gymnasium so that students could be tested regularly. The school management praised the short time required for the testing, which did not disturb the lessons.

Special needs school in the city of Brühl

For its mentally and learning disabled pupils, the special education school was looking for a simple and reliable test with which all pupils could be tested regularly. Thanks to the security of LAMPseq testing, broad quarantine measures could be completely avoided.
